The Makira Ulawa Province will be hosting its annual Makira Banana Festival celebration in Kirakira, Makira Province in June.

 

Preparation for the event has already kicked off according to the organizing chairman of the Banana Festival Noel Mamau on Tuesday.

He said, this year’s festival will be bigger than the inaugural festival last year.

Mr. Mamau said,a committee had been step up so that preparation can kick off early before June.

He acknowledged both the Makira Provincial Government and the National Government for supporting the event, and he hope similar assistance will be rendered.

The festival will highlight varieties of banana, food and drinks, costumes and arts and craft, floral art, queen show, baby show; and, Banana princess.

Everyone in the province are already excited about the proposed event.

There will be sports event which will include the national Banana sevens rugby tournament has been planned and an under 16 rugby 7s team from New South Wales, Australia has confirmed their participation.

A 65 kilometer road relay will go ahead and an open road race will be included, as well as some athletic events.

The chairman said, the festival will be hosted on the second week of June.

He urged everyone to prepare for the event.
