  IRAN: Banana imports change course     AUSTRALIA: Perfect summer set to deliver WA banana growers their most bountiful season in more than a decade  
               
  Iran is increasingly turning to Indian bananas, as multiple factors reduce the volumes coming from the Philippines and Ecuador and as sanctions continue to limit importers’ options     Carnarvon banana growers are enjoying their best season in over a decade thanks to favourable weather conditi ons.  
               
  INDIA: Banana ecosystem start-up Greenikk raises USD 610k in pre-seed funding     SPAIN: 2.7 million kilos of Canarian bananas were withdrawn from the market in 2022  
               
  Kerala-based agritech start-up Greenikk, which launched the country’s first full-stack supply chain connecting banana cultivators, wholesalers, exporters and B2B buyers on a single platform.     Despite the shortage of bananas in the market last year due to the loss of 600 hectares of cultivation in La Palma producers had to withdraw a total of 2.7 million kilos of bananas in 2022 due to the production peaks.  
               
  SAINT LUCIA: Banana farmers to again benefit from 30% fertilizer subsidy     PHILIPPINES: Country loses No. 2 spot for banana exporters  
               
  Local banana farmers will again benefit from a 30% discount on fertilizer, Agriculture Minister Alfred Propere said.     Guatemala dislodged the Philippines as the world’s second-largest exporter of bananas last year, ending the Asian country’s four-year reign.  
               
  FAO: Banana industry struggling due to low production     ECUADOR: Banana sustainability progress reported  
               
  A recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) states that banana exports are showing a troubling tendency to decline.     Policy makers and experts from the banana sector and non-profit organisations gathered in Berlin earlier this month to hear about the sustainability efforts of Ecuador’s banana sector.  
               
  COLOMBIA: Fresh mango exports make U.S. market debut     AUSTRALIA: Benefits to flow from produce treatment trial  
               
  Colombia recently met a milestone in its exports history, with the first container of fresh Keitt mango reaching U.S. ports on Dec. 27.     The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) found two varieties of mangoes that responded well to the hot water treatment, without scalding.  
               
  PAKISTAN: Webinar held to promote mangoes in China     KENYA: Makueni To Host The First National Mango Conference  
               
  Exports of food products from Pakistan to China were close to $1 billion in 2022, Gwadar Pro reported.     Makueni will host the first ever Mango Conference in May, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo announced.

  AUSTRALIA: Queensland pineapples rotting in field as consumers urged to buy up tropical fruit     USA: There’s a fruit scanner that can tell you if your avocado is ripe or not  
               
  Tonnes of Queensland pineapples will be left to rot in fields as farmers struggle to keep up with a prematurely ripened crop, and consumers are being asked to do their bit.     A food tech startup called One Third has unveiled a fruit scanner that can tell the state of ripeness of produce, at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.  
               
  USA: Avocado prices reach dollar sales peak     New Zealand: Ready for World Avocado Congress  
               
  Following the brief import ban of Mexican avocados in early 2022, prices in the U.S. soared by 19%, reaching peak dollar sales of over $233 million in June last year.     Around 1,000 stakeholders from across the avocado industry are expected to converge on Auckland, New Zealand, for the event on 2-5 April 2023.  
               
  CHINA: Avocado growing a booming industry in China-Myanmar border county     INDIA: After 5 years of testing, PAU recommends 2 dragon fruit varieties for Punjab farmers  
               
  Fruit growers in a China-Myanmar border county are working hard to pick ripe avocados in time for the festive market around the Chinese Lunar New Year, in order to secure good prices for their products.     In a major push to crop diversification, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has approved and recommended two varieties of dragon fruit suitable for cultivation in state, after more than five years of evaluation and research.  
               
  MEXICO: Complaint takes aim at avocado production ahead of Super Bowl frenzy     AUSTRALIA: Shepard avocados to be showcased in Hong Kong  
               
  A complaint have been filed over alleged environmental damage from avocado production under the USMCA free trade agreement.     Australia’s Shepard avocado season has started and the fruits will be showcased at the Grand Hyatt (Drawing Room) in Hong Kong.  
               
  VIETNAM: Almost 3,000 tonnes of farm produce exported to China via Lạng Son’s border gates     MALAYSIA: Fruitful period for durian sellers  
               
  Exports of agricultural and fruit products, mainly dragon fruit and mango, reached almost 2,700 tonnes to China through Lạng Sơn Province border gates.     Durian traders in Penang are anticipating better business in the Year of the Rabbit in view of the expected influx of Chinese tourists following the reopening of China’s borders.  
               
  VIETNAM: Dragon fruit, banana, durian exports target US$2 billion in 2023     VIETNAM: Durian overfarming could prompt oversupply, ministry warns  
               
  The fruits and vegetables export recorded positive signals in early 2023, reaching US$300 million in January, up 3 per cent year-on-year.     The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has warned southern localities that a recent surge in durian farming could lead to an oversupply.  
               
  MALAYSIA: Sirim seeks to boost jackfruit exports by tapping meat substitute potential     CHINA: Trade between ASEAN grows 15% in 2022, first year of RCEP’s enforcement  
               
  Sirim is working towards increasing jackfruit exports globally by commercialising the fruit as a meat substitute.     China has witnessed a year-on-year trade increase of 15 percent with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2022.
