  AUSTRALIA: Genetically modified banana approved by regulators for first time     INDIA: Bananas from Madhya Pradesh find passage to Iraq, Iran, Dubai, Bahrain, Turkey  
               
  Regulators in Australia and New Zealand have given the green light for farmers to grow a genetically modified banana resistant to a devastating fungal disease spreading worldwide.     19,000 banana farmers are cultivating 23,650 acres producing 1.65 million metric tons annually, where 30 million is being exported.

  Morocco restored its banana imports in 2023 after a significant slump in the previous year, already importing more bananas than in the whole of 2022.     Ecuador welcomed the lifting of a Russian ban on banana imports from the South American nation amid a spat over a weapons deal benefiting Ukraine.

  Vietnamese fruit exports in January reached US$510 million, posting an increase of 24.9% compared to December 2023, and up 112.1% from January 2023.     The Department of Agriculture will invite experts from a Florida-headquartered biotechnology company, to help eliminate Cecid fly infestation that undermines Philippine mango production and export.  
               
  MALAYSIA: Man gets USD4,200 monthly through papaya cultivation     MALAYSIA: Pineapple board targets to grow plantations for the fruit in the country to 20,000ha  
               
  The father of seven children in Kampung Lepah, Selising, Pasir Puteh, never expected that his papaya cultivation hobby would yield a substantial income, reaching up to RM20,000 per month.     Malaysia has set the target to have some 20,000ha of pineapple plantations by this year, says Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB) chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali.

  DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Joy and concern in the avocado market     KENYA: Avocado exports resume after 4-month suspension  
               
  The DR should continue taking advantage of the avocado market but with responsible crop management not to pay Mexico’s ecological price.     Kenya has opened the harvesting of avocado for export from March after a four-month suspension, an industry regulator said.  
               
  COLOMBIA: Shipments of Hass avocado to the US by 56% in the weeks before and after the Super Bowl     MOROCCO: Avocado Exports Continue to Grow Amid Water Crisis  
               
  According to estimates, between January 22 and February 4, Colombia exported 946 tons of Hass avocado in 45 containers, i.e. 105% more over the same period of the previous year.     Morocco continues to export a significant number of avocado products despite appeals and pledges to rationalize water use amid drought.

  Vietnam is striving to further assert its durian export position and join the billion-dollar export industry with the current advantages in hand, coupled with efforts to better the fruit quality.     Under the Special Scheme for Mukkani Development, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday spelt out various measures to boost the cultivation of mango, jackfruit, and banana in the State during 2024-25.
