Havana, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban agriculture is currently focusing its efforts in the fruit production, either for the basic food or for other demands of interest, as it is the case of the tourist sector, say experts.
The Cuban central-northern province of Ciego the Avila is an example of the good results in that sector, reporting more than 7000 hectares of fruit plantations in only five years.
According to that region authorities, those steps favor the greenness of the environment, make contributions to the industries and markets, and provide stable supplies to the provinces’ hotels and restaurants.
The provincial agricultural delegation expert, Yoel Enrique Alvarez, told reporters that they plan to reach 10,000 fruit plantations by 2015.
The expert added that the fruit plantation plan include the orange, grapefruit, lemon, pineapple, papaya, mango, guava, and coconut, among other plants which already contributed with 30,000 tons of fruits per year.
