The United States patent and trademark office has granted the Mekong Delta province of Long An two parents on its specialties, Nang Thom Cho Dao rice and Chau Thanh dragon fruit.
On Monday, the provincial Department of Science and Technology said the patents would be valid for ten years
Nang Thom Cho Dao is one of Vietnam’s most famous rice varietals thanks to its aroma. The rice is grown in Long An’s Cho Dao Hamlet which produces around 1,500 tons a year, according to Vietnam Plus online newspaper
Meanwhile, Chau Thanh District in the province yields more than 30,000 tons of dragon fruit a year.
