TFNet has been invited to participate in the “Informal Technical Consultation on Banana Fusarium TR4 during CCP” on 8 October 2014 at the Food and Agriculture Organization Office in Rome, Italy.
This consultation will be a follow up of TFNet’s side event panel “Mitigating and adaptation measures for the control of banana fusarium wilt tropical race four (TR4) including the successful development of resistant cultivars.” It aims to facilitate discussions on current initiatives and developments on various technical issues as well as strengthening of international collaborations for prevention and management of the disease.
The discussion will focus on raising awareness of the disease, including communication strategies at the global and national levels; Strengthening and implementation of legislation and international standards; surveillance, monitoring, and risks; research areas, resistant cultivars, seed systems and disease management tools; Capacity building needs at national level; trade related issues; promoting international collaboration and synergies; and potential role of FAO in prevention and management of the disease.
The participants invited are from FAO, Bioversity International, the World Banana Forum, international networks, research institutions and universities, industry representatives, and country representatives.
