Contagious mango fever is heavy in the air as Broome residents and visitors enjoy an extra-large juicy yellow slice of the Broome Mango Festival later this month.
The November 23-26 fruit-worshipping fiesta is organised by the Lions Club of Broome, with attendees relishing the chance to attend music events, try mango products and a tangy quiz night.
A mango quiz night is on offer for tables of eight people at the Broome RSL, from 7pm on November 23. Food enthusiasts can taste the festival with mango jams, cakes and chutneys at Boulevard Shopping Centre, from 8am on November 25.
The White Ribbon Day Gala welcomes attendees to Broome Civic Centre at 6pm on November 25, while residents and visitors can rock on for the Mango Jammin live music and food event at Goolarri Media on November 26 at 5.30pm.
LCB president Chris Mitchell said the traditional Great Chefs and Bartenders of Broome and Mango Tasting will be missed this year, and were expected to make a return next year.
“I enjoy all of the events, the lionesses’ trivia night is well sought after with competitive tables — there are usually a couple of diehard quiz teams,” he said.
“Unfortunately, due to insufficient numbers of volunteers, the chef and bartender competitions will not be held this year. It’s a shame but we have defer it for 2018.
“For me, I love chucking mangoes in the fridge, chilling and then eating them — they are great for smoothies and we often freeze them to last throughout the year.”
