The island province that produces one of the world’s sweetest mango varieties is currently hosting the 20th National Mango Congress.

 

 

Ramon Marañon, chairperson of the Guimaras Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council (Guimaras PAFC), said this year’s theme is focused on increasing local mango productivity through the collaborative effort of local government units (LGUs), national government agencies (NGAs) and various stakeholders.

 

This year’s congress is spearheaded by the Philippine Mango Industry Foundation Inc. (PMIFI) and the Guimaras Mango Growers and Producers DevelopmentCooperative with the partnership of Department of Agriculture (DA), Guimaras provincial government, and Guimaras PAFC.

 

The May 30-June1 event is also set to discuss latest trends, updates and to address the challenges and pressing issues confronting the mango industry.

 

Specific topics include mango production technologies, pests and diseases control management, nursery management, post-harvest, marketing, and financing.

 

Another highlight is the presentation of foreign scientific technologies such as the quick freezing technology from Sweden; automatic tray forming packaging machines from Italy; mango ripening with zero fruit damage; and shrinkage technologies.

 

The DA’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) is organizing regional agri-trade fair and exhibits.
