Talaad Thai is the biggest wholesale market for agricultural products in Thailand. Built on an area totalling about 80 hectares, the collection and distribution centre is situated about 60 km north of capital Bangkok.  Complete with its own container yard, banks and cold chain facilities, it also has  a POSSEC (Perishable one stop export centre) to facilitate exports of fresh produce. It is perhaps the biggest integrated wholesale market for agricultural products in the region. Others minor products traded include processed and dried products for culinary purposes.

Established in 1997, it now boasts of more than 3000 traders on leased floor spaces in spacious, clean, easily connected and logistically friendly ‘hanger-like buildings’. The main products traded are fruits, vegetables, flowers, processed products, and to a lesser extent, fish and meat products. Producers and traders bring in their products from the surrounding provinces to the wholesalers and distributors who in turn supply them to retailers, exporters and other customers. Transactions are done daily for 24 hours. It has to be noted here that all products traded are ‘market worthy’ in that they have been selected, graded, packed and of high quality standards. Hypermarket giant, Tesco Lotus is one of the anchor tenants in this wholesale complex.

Fresh fruit is one of the main products traded and the section occupies a substantial area of the market. In fact a whole building is dedicated to only fresh citrus. Other common fruits include durians, pomelos, papayas, mandarin oranges, bananas, dragon fruit and other seasonal types.
