FAO-UN recently conducted a review session for a self-assessment tool to support companies in undertaking due diligence activities.
The session which was led by the FAO’s Responsible Fruits Project team, reached out to avocado and pineapple companies in Asia, Africa, and Europe to review the tool developed as a form of assistance for industry players to compare the standards they applied with international expectations on due diligence.
TFNet facilitated the participation of stakeholders involved in both the commodities from Asia, specifically from Malaysia, India, Indonesia, China, and Vietnam.
The session which was moderated by Mr. Jesper Karlsson of the FAO-UN successfully obtained important feedback from industry players on the usefulness of the tool for companies, ease of use of tool, and recommendations for improvements, among others.
Once finalized, the self-assessment tool is hoped to support avocado and pineapple companies and associations to strengthen or establish risk-based due diligence systems which can assist them in possessing a competitive edge over others, while maintaining access to markets.
