According to the National Animal and Plant Health and Epidemiology and Quarantine Consulting Office (SPS) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, the General Administration of Customs of China issued a document agreeing to import passion fruit from Vietnam in a pilot form from July 1.
Based on the requirements of the General Administration of Customs of China, passion fruit exported to China must meet the requirements on packaging specifications, pest control, planting area code, file preservation, etc., to ensure product quality and food safety.
The General Administration of Customs of China also recommended that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam cooperate with the sampling inspection of export products. In addition, the passion fruit production process must comply with the requirements of good agricultural practices such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP, etc.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam will submit a list of passion fruit export enterprises to the General Administration of Customs of China every year. The list will be published on the official website of the General Administration of Customs of China after approval.
China’s agreement to import passion fruit from Vietnam is the result of long-term negotiations and efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam to promote the market opening.
Passion fruit is one of the 10 fruits with the highest export value in Vietnam in 2021. In the past five years, the output volume and export value of Vietnam’s passion fruit have increased by more than 300%. Passion fruit cultivation area is increasing, especially in the Xiyuan region, where the profits from passion fruit can reach VND 350 million to 400 million per hectare.
