Fyffes has launched its ‘Pineapple Bar’ in a number of Dunnes Stores outlets, offering customers freshly chopped pineapple in seconds.

The company’s pineapple-to-go machine claims to chop the fruit into bite-sized pieces in 20 seconds, with customers able to take it away in a compostable tub.

It is being rolled out to 12 Dunnes shops for the summer months, with customers paying no additional charge on top of the price of the fruit itself.

Earlier this month Fyffes announced the rollout of recycleable packaging for its bananas, which it said would result in a reduction of over 5.5 tonnes of plastic.

In late 2016 the Irish-headquartered company was acquired by Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation in a deal worth €751 million (USD 840 million).
