The International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on October 31, 2019 during MARDI’s 50th Anniversary celebration.

The MOU aims to strengthen, facilitate, develop, encourage, and promote joint collaboration between the two organizations in relation to production, consumption, and trade of the tropical fruits industry through the following:

  1. Organizing training programs, seminars, workshops, and conferences on issues related to tropical fruits in TFNet member countries;
  2. Jointly coordinating technical consultancies and study visits;
  3. Exchanging relevant information;
  4. Yearly review of activities undertaken; and
  5. Any other activities that are mutually agreed upon by both organizations.

 

Acting CEO Dorothy Chandrabalan accepted and signed the MOU on behalf of TFNet and Director-General Datuk Mohamad Roff Muhd Noor signed on behalf of MARDI. Three other organizations signed an MOU with MARDI during the celebration: the Philippine-based Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), the Hungarian National Agricultural Research and Innovation Centre (NAIK), an the Malaysia-based International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF).

MARDI is an agency that has been mandated to conduct research and development in agriculture, food, and agro-based industries. They also provided technical services and entrepreneurship development in food, agriculture, and other fields related to the industry.
