Vietnam has been unable to fully control the safety and quality of fruits and vegetables, especially those imported from China due to the latter nation’s overlap of management in the sector.

The information was provided at the yesterday meeting on imported food safety organized in Hanoi by the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development.

Most delegates admitted that it is very difficult for local consumers to distinguish the quality of imported fruits and vegetables available on the Vietnamese market now.

A representative from the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development told the meeting that Vietnam has managed to check and control safety of food imported from China but has not been able to make quantitative analysis.

In addition, China now has different agencies in charge of food safety control and thus has not given Vietnam the one address for united management.

Actually, China supplied Vietnamese authorities with over 3,000 addresses in charge of food safety.
