The Edith Cowan University in Joondalup, Western Australia is offering a PhD horticulture scholarship through a project on jackfruit. Specifically, the project will investigate the comparison of pre-harvest and post-harvest fruit characteristics, post-harvest physiology, consumer attributes and economic evaluation of the supply chain of Jackfruit produced in different preharvest settings.
About the project
This joint research project involves a PhD student, Professors Zora Singh and A Woodward, Edith Cowan University (ECU), Joondalup, Western Australia, Dr MS Mazhar, Agriculture Branch, Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (DITT), Darwin, NT and Dr K Sangha, Charles Darwin University (CDU) and an industry advisor Mr. Greg Owens, NT Farmers. This project is jointly funded by CRC for Developing Northern Australia, ECU, Western Australia, DITT, Northern Territory Government and CDU. In the initial phase of the project the PhD student will work at the ECU Joondalup campus to develop the proposal. All the experimental work will be conducted by the PhD student at DITT, NT with the joint supervision of the staff from ECU, DITT and CDU. Following the completion of PhD research, the PhD student will complete the thesis, submission and publication at ECU, Joondalup.
In addition to a tuition fee waiver, expenses for research related travel, chemicals and consumables, the PhD stipend is valued at $30,000 p.a. for up to a maximum of 3 years.

Australian Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents, New Zealand Citizens, Permananent Humanitarian Visa holders and international students who meet the entry requirements of Western Australia’s pandemic-related controlled border are eligible for this scholarship.
