Worldwide demand for passion fruit and passion fruit has led to increased cultivation areas of these fruits in more than 30 percent in the country over the previous year, according to a report from the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) , Sierra Exportadora reported.
He noted that both the passion and the Hass avocado, the two fruits that reached the top spot in sales promoted by Sierra Exportadora, led the presentation of Andean fruits in the Fruit Logistica 2013 that concluded Friday in Berlin (Germany).

He said that the Agricultural Corporation Yanachaga Chemillen Oxapampa (Junín), an association of producers working with Sierra Exportadora past three years, brought the passion to Berlin, and currently exported to Canada and Italy.

“The technical assistance to producers Sierra Exportadora Oxapampa Grenadilla begins in planting and fertilizer management, post harvest to select the fruit and reach the commercialization stage,” he said.

Currently under development, with advice from Sierra Exportadora, a business plan submitted to the grant fund Initiative Productive Competitiveness Support (Procompite), to process passion fruit pulp in the form of frozen concentrated pulp, which will facilitate their export.

Meanwhile, avocado recorded more than 19 million dollars in exports promoted by Sierra Exportadora in 2012, ranking first in the category of Andean fruits.

Two companies are producing Andean avocado: Agroindustrias Marcafruit Verdeflor and Peru, said.

The main destinations of avocado are Spain, Holland, Germany and France. In foreign markets avocados sold at an average price of between 1.50 and 2.47 dollars.

Also expected to participate in Fruit Logistica increase sales opportunities of avocado in Central and Eastern Europe and open avenues to Asian markets.

Other fruits and vegetables Andean were also present at Fruit Logistica 2013 are the tuna, fresh cucumber, passion fruit, elm, corn, garlic, chili, Chinese arverjita and mango.

The latter is produced by the company Mango Growers Association (APROMALPI), and is presented as fresh organic mango, such as juice and mango pulp bags.

Peru has exported in 2011 a total of 842,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables, with a value of 1,100 million dollars.
