A SunshineCoast videographer has captured the moment 30 of his dragonfruit plants flowering in an amazing timelapsed video.
Shane Gehlert, of Bluedog films, said only a handful of people on the Coast were growing dragonfruit plants.
It’s the largest flush of flowers he’s had to date.
The dragonfruit plant, or Pittaya, was originally from Central America and produce incredible flowers in the warmer month.
“They begin opening around dusk and take two to three hours before they are fully open,” Mr Gehlert said.
“By morning they are wilted and withered and take a further two to three weeks to form the ripe fruit we know as ‘Dragonfruit’ These are the red variety and are growing on our property.
“I named this ‘Maggie’s Flowers’ after our Alpaca Maggie, we had to euthanize her that same morning after suffering a long fight a terrible brain condition called ‘Polioencephalomalacia’ bought on from an unknown toxin.
“That was the only bright side to the day seeing these amazing flowers come out, so I named them after her.”
Mr Gehlert’s video was taken from thousands of stills and some video from a Canon 5dmk3 and a Canon 7d.
It was assembled in After Effects.
Mr Gehlert is available for video production, time lapses and 3D compositing through is business Bluedog films.
