AUSTRALIAN mandarins are back in season, with the sweet citrus fruit expected to be a winter favourite as consumers turn towards healthy, convenient foods.
Citrus Australia chief executive Judith Damiani said as Australians became more health conscious, budget conscious and time poor, mandarins were emerging as a preferred snack option.
Ms Damiani said it was expected Aussie mandarins would once again outsell oranges.
Past favourites such as imperial, afourer and murcott varieties will be available, as well as a new variety called Gold Nugget.
The Aussie mandarin season runs from April to October with more than 11 varieties available.
