The project to export national products abroad, especially to the European continent, was analyzed at an inter-agency meeting held at the Committee on Industry, Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives.

Spanish businessmen, representatives of the National Quality and Plant Health and Seeds (SENAVE), the National Institute for Food and Nutrition (INAN), the Investment and Exports (REDIEX) and the Ministry of Agriculture and livestock, attended the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to get accompaniment to all production processes, so that the products comply with the requirements of the countries interested in importing them.

“The idea is to make possible the export of certain products, such as watermelon, cantaloupe and, most possibly, also potatoes. We have already set forth the signature of an agreement between some producers, SENAVE and a municipal office”, said Oscar Gonzalez Drakeford, president of that legislative committee.

Gonzalez Drakeford explained that, as part of the conditions required by European companies to certify the country’s exports, they had to control certain pests.

“The next step is to know the details of the Spanish phytosanitary requirements so that SENAVE can advance and process our approaches,” said the senator.

Meanwhile, Javier Rubio, a Spanish businessman, said they were satisfied with the meeting and noted that there was a big possibility to export the required products. “We just need support in terms of paperwork and that they promote the cultivation of the products we require,” he said.
