Juices, jams, puree, dried flesh, roasted seeds, dried fruit with seed, and shell flour as an antioxidant will be new processed products from Rambutan that will be produced by farmers in the southern region of Costa Rica.
As explained by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), processing will benefit about 150 farmers and their families from two associations: ASOFRUBRUNCA (Fruit Growers Association of Brunca) in Perez Zeledon and APROFRUT (Fruit Growers Association) in Paso Canoas.
“The promotion of value-added agricultural products creates opportunities for producers in the region to generate income and a supplement to the sale of fresh produce,” said Octavio Ramirez, officer in charge of FAO in Costa Rica.
Currently, partnerships are renovating its collection centers to increase the space that will house the necessary machinery for processing. Efforts will soon be made to promote the product will be made at the national and international level.
