TFNet CEO Dr. Desa Hassim attended the Malaysian Pineapple Conference held in Riverside Hotel, Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia on 1-2 December 2015.
The conference was organized by the Malaysia Pineapple Industrial Board (MPIB), supported by the State government of Sarawak during the celebrations of the National Farmers, Livestock Breeder and Fishermen Day. This national event gathered about 500 participants, among them were various stakeholders of pineapple industry in Malaysia.
During the seminar, Dr. Desa presented his paper on the Role of TFNet in Promoting Global Pineapple Industries: Sarawak Perspective. The paper made light on global information on pineapple from production to trade and consumption trends.
He also suggested for the pineapple stakeholders to work towards a sustainable agriculture approach in promoting Sarawak pineapple industry to the world market. These include establishing quality infrastructure and improving supply chain management strategies that includes establishing pineapple processing plants with modern postharvest facilities and processing technology.
Empowering research and development sustainable agriculture is also important, as it improves fruit quality for the export market, produce specialty products, create greater branding strategy towards global competitiveness. All these should work together towards an integrated approach – interdisciplinary, holistic, and based on strategic activities that will improve the pineapple industry.
